This past weekend Benjamin had a conference in Chicago and we decided that it would be a good idea to tag along so that we could have some fun family time in the city! We knew we wouldn't have a ton of time but we really wanted to make the most of it while we were there.
If there's one thing I've learned in this crazy busy journey of residency for Benjamin is that when you have the opportunity to have time together then do it! It's always a little tricky with little one's but after all of the sleepless nights we always look at each other and say how it was worth the extra effort. And that it was so much fun! I asked on my Instagram if any of you knew of any family-friendly activities and/or restaurants we could go to and you all gave me so many amazing suggestions! If you scroll to the bottom of this post I listed several! On the first night we decided to eat at the Hyatt Regency where we stayed. What I loved most about this hotel was the location and the attention to service. We had the sweetest server help us for dinner and she really went the extra mile with our busy three. Ben and I were so grateful because we were all boderline hangry lol! |
The next day we decided to go to Millenium Park which was at walking distance from our hotel. It was a beautiful spring day and we were all loving being in a different city. I completely forgot how fun and vibrant Chicago is! All of the flowers are in bloom and it was so breathtaking to see all of the tulips and crab apple trees.
During our walk and as we arrived at the park we kept seeing people with signs and I had completely forgotten that it was Earth Day! I love that this is an actual day we celebrate but I also love the idea that it should be every day, ya know?! It also happened to be the March for Science and I always love looking at all of the signs people create for these things. I happen to snap a picture of this one as we walked by and I could not agree more :)
The last time we were at the 'Cloud Gate' aka 'the bean' none of our babies were born. I remember the day clearly because we had gotten into an argument over something super silly and we walked around half upset until we got over it and looked at each other like what are we doing?! Eventually we laughed and once we got to see our reflection we snapped several photos and 'selfies' which hadn't even been called that at the time! So when we arrived, all of the memories rushed back and I couldn't help but think about how much more special it is to share these different places with our babies. How neat that we came back with three little one's of our own. It was really special without having to be this crazy over-the-top experience. It was special because it was simple and in the simplicity of the moment I felt an overwhelming sense of love.
And Cristian was soooo tired! He pretty much conked out the rest of the day until we went out to eat. Which by the way, a few of you recommended Latinicity and it was perfect for what we wanted! Great food and a very family-friendly atmosphere. We decided that we have to go back soon and for a longer period of time because there is so much fun stuff and great restaurants to visit!
And of course I had to have a jump picture in front of the bean because why not?!
If you're wondering my white jeans are from here and they fit like a glove! Also, a similar jacket here and similar wedges here.
Here's a list of the some more amazing places you all suggested:
Giardano's for pizza
Lincoln Park Zoo (which is FREE)
Maggie Daley Park (also FREE)
Shedd Aquarium (this is like a day event & it's at the top of our list when we go back!)
Did you all do anything special over the weekend?! Wishing you all a great week ahead!
