living room refresh reveal!

I have been looking forward to sharing this space with you guys for the past couple of months! If you follow me on Instagram I've shared lots of BTS of the progress. When we decided to refresh the living room it was because we were so tired of the paint color and we wanted to brighten up the space. This old house has so many charming details that we wanted to highlight them since they were totally being hidden by the decor and paint that was in here. I know I've mentioned this before but even when we lived in our tiny apartment it felt so great to make the space our home while we were there! We know this is not our forever home and we will be moving in the next 2-3 years after residency once Benjamin gets his big boy job as an attending lol. We also know this time will undoubtedly fly by but it's still a significant amount of time to live in a room that we do not love! We really wanted to create a space that was a retreat for us. This area doubles as a family room and formal living room. I also wanted to create a 'mudroom' area at the beginning of the house where we could put our shoes and hang our coats. It was a little tricky figuring out how to separate this area without making it look crowded but I LOVE how it all turned out!

The most drastic change in this room was obviously the paint color! We went with "Distant Star' by Behr paint. I love a good 'before' and 'after' so throughout the week I will be sharing them over on my Instagram ðŸ˜Š I also loved partnering again with Steinhafel's for our refresh! We have been long-time customers and we always have such a wonderful experience when we visit! We added this amazing Giverny sofa from their huge inventory at their Waukesha store (the one with the play area 😆) and it really brought the exact vibe that we wanted in here. I like to think of my style as 'boho-chic' haha! And this couch was not only gorgeous but it's also the perfect size for our living room that's on the smaller side. It's also very comfortable and kid-friendly which is a huge deal. I decided to switch out the accent pillows in order to make all of the decor more cohesive. I loved the combination of cooler colors and warm tones like wicker accents throughout the room. My favorite part about this sofa is that we now have a hang-out spot that brings our space together beautifully!
I also added a few new details throughout like my fiddle leaf fig tree and this round gold end-table that is so pretty! I was also able to convince Benjamin to dust off his guitar and leave it out in the living room! He is such an amazing guitar player and sometimes it's nice to have a visual reminder of those creative things that make us happy outside of work ;) We will be eventually hanging it on the wall but while we wait for our wall mount it's on the floor stand. Our DIY shelf desk that we shared how to make here is now one of my favorite corners! Our fair-trade blue and natural wicker basket is such a special addition too and I love that it hides the hot mess that is the boys toys while still looking chic 😜 We love our new space and are so happy we decided to hit refresh!
